Maltese hospitality all the way to Sweden

Stockholm, the most populated area in Scandinavia and home to around 22% of Sweden’s entire population, embraced the arrival of a Maltese delegation on Tuesday 25th of January 2011. Representatives of MTA Scandinavia, InterTravel (Destination Management Company), Starwood Global Sales Offices and Le Méridien St Julians Hotel & Spa, gathered at the Sheraton Stockholm Hotel to proudly host their main contacts and potential customers amongst Sweden’s Professional Conference Organizers.

The project had been in the pipeline of Le Méridien St Julian’s business plan for the last couple of weeks. James Drury, Group Sales Manager, and Reuben Grixti, Executive Head Chef, actively worked at organizing the event prior to flying out to Sweden a couple of days before this much awaited evening. “This wouldn’t have been possible without the precious help of InterTravel and MTA, and without the professional commitment of Britt-Marie Skog, the Account Director of Starwood Global Sales Offices in Scandinavia.”, explains James Drury. “We were on a shared mission, not only to present our property, but also – and mainly – to promote Malta as a preferred and ideal travel destination for the Meeting & Incentive market.”

The organizers of the event with some of the participants
The evening was entirely built around the theme of “Malta” and the organizers didn’t leave anything to chance. The scope was to impress their guests and depict a positive – yet typical – image of our Mediterranean island. Patricia O’Connell, from MTA Scandinavia, opened the evening with an introductory presentation about Malta. Kristian Hauge, MICE Manager at InterTravel and James Drury also grabbed their audience’s attention by further developing the many possibilities that our country, its luxurious establishments and its meeting facilities have to offer to prospective clients.

Throughout the evening, mouth-watering Maltese delicacies were going around the enthusiastic crowd. Reuben Grixti, Le Méridien Executive Head Chef, was orchestrating the whole culinary operation and strived at providing an astonishing impression of our many Maltese flavours. “Even the welcome drink was carefully selected”, proudly remembers the Chef. “We came up with a delicate cocktail recipe made of Bajtra (local liquor) and Ginger Ale that surely tantalized our guests from the very first minutes of the event”.

To further engrave the experience in their guests’ memory, the organizers held a fun and interactive quiz about Malta whereas the winner received a week-end break for 2 persons at Le Méridien St Julians Hotel & Spa. Another 2 week-end breaks were given as prizes through a raffle.

As proven by the amount of positive feed-back received by all parties in the days that followed the evening, this Stockholm event was certainly a successful one for the organizers and for our tourism in general.”, concludes James Drury. “Putting together such a positive and professional display of our Maltese hospitality can certainly go a long way to attract new businesses and strengthen older partnerships. We are all extremely pleased with the outcome.”

THE END
